Commission

Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has annointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lords favour.

Matthew 28:19-20

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Soirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

This is very clear in the New Testament. This is our mission. Jesus came with this mission and fulfilled it, along with the wonderful work of reconcilliation He finished on the Cross. We exist yo worship God and to proclaim Him to the Earth with  a purpose.

Most churches have mission statements, and can be long and detailed with many words. Do they contain within them, no matter how ling or short, the mission they exist for? Does the church operate within the mission given by Christ?

The Church is a growing, living thing and changes all the time. Each church changes by generation to generation, Pastor to Pastor, Elder to Elder. As a church grows, it might need to look again at its mission statement, it might need changing or rewriting. Above all, I feel a church needs a mission statement, and it needs to be known by every member and followed from Leadership down. It has to be taken on by all as a personal mission within the community and local areas, and within its own walls. If we start with the words of Jesus and try to follow His ways, we wont be far short of the right paths at any time, but only if we stay as close to Him as we can.

who do we really glorify?

How much glory do we give our idols on TV or on the sports fields? Do we talk about them a lot, try to live like them, do the same or wear the same as them? Do we raise up Christian speakers, or leaders? Do we quote them or try to talk like them? What about the music we listen to? Can we sing the songs off by heart even though they are secular and say things that are not godly?

When does God Himself get our glory? When does He get our time, space and undivided attention? Do we talk about Him to everyone we meet on the bus, in the shops or even those we go to church with? Do we quote His Word and try to live as He wants? Do we try to speak and live in a godly way and make a stand for what is right? Do we live a holy life that doesn’t taint us or our walk?

We are made in Gods image, and are designed to reflect His glory. Do we?

We are walking adverts for the Kingdom of God and the work Jesus did on the Cross. How are we to bring others into our faith if we don’t live any differently to them? How can we tell of the work of Calvary if we don’t show the results of that work and have victory in our lives? Our souls reflect what we put in them. If all we do is put in them what we see on TV or what we read that is not godly or have inappropriate things in them, then that is what we will show to others. If we have unforgiveness, hate, unloving hearts and attitudes to ourselves and others, that is what we will show.

Jesus had victory on the Cross so we don’t have to live defeated lives. When we live in victory, we have victory over evil and lies. We show faith and total belief in Jesus and the blood He shed that gives us new life in Him. How many more people can be won for Him if we lived more like Him and less like the world?

Victorious

Jesus is Always victorious. He won the battle on the Cross. No matter where we are or who we are, the battle has been won. He walks with us in victory, but how many of us do not live victorious lives? How many of us are battle worn, down or low. We can live a life showing the victory of Christ by walking ever closer to Him. Life throws all it can at us and Satan will use everything in his power to keep us from not living in Christ.

Letting go of the past is one good way of a life full of victory. Every one of us has stuff that lingers from things that have happened. If we allow it to, it will affect us for the rest of our life, and personally I don’t want to let old hurts ruin a future that is God given through His own sacrifice for me. Forgiveness is not as easy as it seems. It is something we are called to do though, and even if it is hard, we are to forgive and love in place of hurt or anger.

Jesus cant fill dirty cups. Our hearts and soul are like cups we hold out to Jesus to fill with His Spirit with blessings and love. If our hearts are filled with dirt and sin, He can’t fill them with His blessings. Our cups need to be washed with love, forgiveness and repentance. Jesus is standing next to us waiting to fill us. Our cups, our hearts get cleaned at the Cross, and cleaned with the most precious treasure we have. His blood.

Dont let things get in the way of who we are in Christ. We are His family. His children. His bride.

Live the victorious life we already have.
